Purists are going to eviscerate me, but I prefer The Cure's "Purple Haze" to Jimmy Hendrix's version. And Talking Head's "Take Me to the Water" is better than Al Green's, and it's become so associated with TH that many people don't realize it's a cover.
And has anybody noticed that anybody who covers John Hiatt sticks so close to the original that they're nearly indistinguishable?
Other than that, there are very few covers that stand up to the originals.

I don't like the guy but Robbie Williams did a good cover of She's The One. Also all along the watchtower by Jimi Hendrix is better than the original, infact anything Dylan performed is better when done by someone else, his songs are great but he should just write and let others perform.

I liked Eltons Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. And Mike Flowers version of Wonderwall was simply ripper.

hendrix did some superb cover songs like the beatles sgt pepper
cream sunshine of your love the animals house of the rising sun
hendrix did quite a bit but the most recognised one was dylan`s all along the watchtower its a superb cover
many have copied jimis stuff but they dont have that same feeling as when he played them
wonder if hendrix was still alive what covers would he do today ?

YES,

Runaway by Del Shannon was the original but the cover version by Luis Cardenas is absolutely brilliant!!!!!
