The Basilisk walked around the castle through the pipes (plumbing). But how did he get out and into the corridors where he attacked? Because he couldn't just come out through the entrance in the bathroom and walk around the corridors without being seen, right? After all, as Ron says, "it's a dirty great snake", or something like that! Are there more entrances to the Chamber or to the pipe system?

Ginny let it out.(Ron's Sis) the entrance to the Chamber was in the 3rd floor girls bathroom with Moaning Myrtel it was the sink you had to speak Parseltounge to. when open it comes out and looks at you and you die. yes if you watched the movie you'd see that they came out of the pipe that runs it to the lake. but if you also payed attention to the book you'd know that it only came during Dinner thats why no one saw it in the halls.

In theory it could, for the basilisk was a special creature. It had the long-lost ability to transform people to stone from a single glance into its eyes. So anyone who would have seen it going through the corridors wouldn't have lived long enough to tell about it.

Other than that it's magic and it poofed there
