When people appear cocky or up themselves about their knowledge? For example, if you are a Musician and you meet someone who thinks they know it all.
Why do we get annoyed at this? What is it that sparks irritation inside?!

Its human nature! We are taught to be competitive at home, in school at work, with mates. Even if we try and bring our kids up to be neutral it will still surface, we all want to be better than the next. Be honest if you know something that someone doesn;t don't you always try and impress or impose your views or opinion upon them? The irritation comes from not knowing it first! Try and learn from others thats the only way we'll ever learn.

you mention musicians, so i'll go with your example.

i don't know any musicians who don't love music. so when they meet someone who says they know a lot about it, they are excited to learn more about something they love, and converse with someone who shares their interests.

when it turns out the person is full of ****, it's annoying because you feel let down.

guess it's one of the few childlike qualities that stay with us - disappointment may not cause the full blown temper tantrum anymore, but it sill pushes your buttons.

Because noone likes a dummy who pretends that they are better than everyone else. And if you don't get that then you are totally buggin.
