Teens have many changes going on with hormones and brain function. Your body is in transition, and it can have a very strong impact on moods and desires. In addition, this is the time when everyone seems to expect you to have more adult responsibilities. It is a lot to take on all at once!

As for maturity, that is a heavy word. Some people can point at someone who is in their 40s and call them immature. Others, like AIDS orphans who are caring for younger brothers and sisters seem very mature even at the age of 12.

In general, maturity is not related to your age as much as it is related to how you are living your life. When you are caring for all of your own physical/emotional needs and financial responsibilities, in general, that is when society will consider you fully mature.

You know you're mature when you don't care about being mature anymore. When you start trying to make yourself and others around you happy and successful then it's a good sign that you've matured. Selfishness I think is the most immature of all stages.

Teen years are confusing and complicated because your body is developing and hormone levels peak, making you more sensitive to everything around you. As you get older your hormones balance and you realize that the things you once thought of as embarrassing or frustrating or sad etc. weren't worth all the stress and that they'd never bother you if they were to happen again.

There is a part of a brain responsible for risk judgment that develops until the age 24. That is why teenagers aren't scared of dangers and take more uncalculated risks.

So people in their teens actually do lose a part of their mind. Crazy isn't it? But definitely pretty cool!

There's lots of cool articles online that explain why teenagers go through such a difficult stage, and I wish they were available when I was a teen cuz I barely made it out safely ;)

teens are confused and complicated and this is for sure because they are still not fully grown adults, however not every teen is like that. some are mature and you can know that from the way they act, dress, think and talk. but, being a teen is something you will never come back to in your life and thats why it is a nice part to remember.

The teen years are a time of transition between the safety of your childhood when all of your decisions were made for you and adulthood when you make all of the decisions. It is also a time of change for your body and your mind as you explore and try new things and limits. Of course it is confusing, complicated, exciting, fun, dangerous, thrilling and more. It also lays the foundation for your early adult years. You can come out of it with a good foundation, build on that and transition to a successful life. Or you can make a mess of the situation and spend the rest of your life trying to recover.

My observation is that those who make the most of their teen years have a support system in place, family, friends, teachers, adults they trust; who they can bounce ideas off of and who will help them make decisions that avoid many of the traps and potholes of life.

I know it can be a scary time, but it can also be a wonderful time as you prepare for the rest of your life. Good Luck.

In a world where many adults are chronologically above 21, yet acting like teens, maturity is difficult to determine,
therein lies the confusion and complication.

Senior citizens used to tell of experiences that were beneficial to others and they were respected. Community and the value of different people co-existing in the community had value. I am not saying all was right with the world, but money was not the highest bar people would aspire to. CHARACTER was of value.DIGNITY, and PRIDE were attributes of maturity and value.

The measure you give others is the measure you will get, try to do the right thing by others and you will reap the rewards.
Sad to say, you must find people to guide you, with no hidden agenda. Trust your own instincts and maintain a level of integrity. There are wonderful people in this world, with a question like yours, you are one of them!

You are normal with the questioning and the confusion...You guys have it
in your teen's. We girls, we get it in our late 40's or early 50's ( that is if you are normal ). We call it hormones baby. Ask your doctor...Don't depend on Joe-blow's answer...have a good life!

Preach it, I think were mature when we can make good decisions that don't screw up our lives or make selfish decisions (sometimes I think adults are less mature than some 5 year old one just died today i believe GUESS who)
