when it starts it turns off again. I try to start it again and it will not start for a few tries, then it will start again and when I accelerate it turns off. I keep my foot on the accelerator until the car engine warms, then if will stay on but it feels like it gonna turn off again. As I drive and stop at a light I fear it will stop again, but it stays on. Next it will be fine until I turn the engine off again and it's the same. The car is a 97 Saturn SL with 120,000 miles on it. It recently had a tune up with new spark plugs, oil change, tire rotations etc. Apparently the mechanic missed something, or the cold weather is taking its toll on the car. Any ideas what the problem could be???

There are many different things that can cause a stalling problem, most are usually easy to fix, but the trick is to know which system is causing the problem. You can waste a lot of time and money fixing this and that and you still have the problem. So find a good car repair shop with modern diagnostic equipment and get them to check it out. They might prefer that you leave the car over night so that the motor is cold when they check it out the next morning .

It happens to me, and I drive an '07 Toyota.... three times! Apparently during cold weather, your transmission froze, so to unfreeze it you need to create a spark... you don't have to jump cable with another car but if you hook the jump cable to your battery and touch the other end of your jump cable together, it will create a spark and voila, your engine will work again! If you don't have a jump cable, here's a longer process to start your car... make sure you put your emergency break off, and your lights are on "door" (you know, when you leave your door open, the lights comes on?)...yeah that switch. Leave the door open for about ten minutes or maybe even less... meanwhile, step on the break while you turn your keys in the ignition. Repeat these steps till your car starts. After about a long while, your car will start again

Take it back into the garage that did the work, they did something wrong or forgot to check something. Could be numerous problems. You may have water in your gasoline and it's causing that problem. Especially with cold weather and if you buy cheap gasoline. You might try putting in premium unleaded and see if that works. But still think you should go back to the garage and have it checked out.

It is the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. It may be hard to see but it is cracked. Have it replaced and that should fix it.

Take it back in and ask him to look at the cold start system.
