Because the male gets only one X and a female gets two X's. In order for a femal to get the trait she has to have markers on both of her x's where as a male only has one x to be affected

Males only have one X chromosome. Since females have two, the chances of getting a dominant gene on their other X chromosome are higher. If males receive a recessive allele on their X chromosome, they can't receive a dominant allele to change the trait since they only have one X and one Y.

When a genetic abnormality is carried on the X chromosome and is inherited by a male, he gets the full dose of it, because he only has the one X chromosome. If a female inherits it, the effects will be minimised or absent, because in females, one X chromosome in each cell is shut down and inactive. this is called lionization. So half of the abnormal X chromosomes will be shut down. The good X chromosomes will compensate for the active abnormal X chromosomes.

Normally a recessive trait is only partially expressed or not at all if there is a normal dominant gene for the same trait. Since in males the sex gene is XY there is no corresponding X gene to overcome the recessive trait with a dominant one.
Females are XX, so if there is a recessive gene on one of these and a dominant on on the other, the X linked recessive one will be hidden.

guys only hve one X chromosome...where as girls have 2. if a guy has a recessive allele on his X chromosome then the recessive trait will show because he only has one. Girls have 2 X chromosomes so unless both are mutated, the recessive trait won't show.

Because guys only have one X choromosome, so if that chromosome had a problem, they're going to be messed up. Girls have two X chromosomes, so they have a better chance of being ok.
