One of the best books I have ever read is "The Excorsist" by William Peter Blatty. It is not really a scary book. It goes more into the religious aspects of excorsism and the reasons the Catholic Church would need to do one than the movies does.
I also enjoyed Stephen King's "Rose Madder". Not a horror book but more of a woman finding her own strength to leave her abusive husband and find her own life. Stephen King also wrote "Rita Hayworh and the Shawhsank Redemption" which is, like the movie, an excellent stroy.
Michael Crichton's books are always good reads. "Jurassic Park", "The Lost World" and "State Of Fear" are brilliant.
If you haven't already done so read "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown. The book of "Da Vinci Code" is waaaaay better than the movie.
Anne Rice's vampire chronicles are really riveting "Interview With the Vampire", "The Vampire Lestat", "The Queen Of The Damned",The Tale Of The Body Thief" and "Memnoch The Devil"are the first 5 and the best. Her witch trilogy is even more exciting in my eyes: "The Witching Hour", "Lasher" and "Taltos". If you like that grandiose, gothic style of writing you really can't go wrong with Anne Rice.
Thomas Harris' books are brilliant, he wrote "Red Dragon", The Silence Of The Lambs", "Hannibal" and his new book, "Hannibal Rising".... well written and very atmospheric.
Lasty Irvine Welsh's books are very very good but are probably a bit too adult for you if you are only in your teens. They are very graphic in thier description of drug use and the cruel side of human nature as well as the fact that they are written in Scottish dialect and are very hard to read if you don't understand the way Scottish people use slang.
It's nice to be able to answer a question like this about reading....doesn't happen very often. Good for you...

i luv Sci-Fi books...ne thing by Ray Bradbury is awesm. um... i LOVED Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Janette Oke is really good. The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare is good. i would get a modern version otherwise it's completely baffling. mostly thats it. i've practically read all the books in the teen section in my library. out of them Feed by M.T Anderson is really good. Hole in the Sky by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes is really good. Pete Hautman. David Almond (Skellig and Heaven Eyes) is a great author. Then there's this really amazing trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. the three books (in order) are: Uglies, Pretties, and Specials. that is the best trilogy i've ever read. i'm still waiting to read specials. i kno these aren't actually classics but they're mostly out of the ordinary, awesome books. Hope i helped!

something that provokes concept and is irreverent for its time as well as nevertheless an outstanding examine many years later. What makes a e book tremendous is that one you are able to examine once extra and nevertheless benefit something from it like Catcher interior the Rye or Grapes of Wrath or perhaps 1984 by technique of George Orwell.

Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage
about a trans-Antarctic expediton which ran into some difficulty, to say the least. If it was fiction you would say it is too fantastic to be believable.
and another vote for "Catcher in the Rye"
