The visiting foreigners must collect as much information about accomodation and travel before they hit the indian shores.

There are various options available for the tourists.

Many states in India have introduced "Bed and Breakfast" systems in many tourist places. The information is available with the respective State Tourism Development corporations/bodies.

Many hotel chains are establishing the moderately priced but clean spaces in various places in India.

Apart from this, there are several options available for "Youth hostel" members all over India. The incoming tourists can book the accomodation with YHAI at a very low cost.

One option can be to utilise one's connections / friends et al and locate the neat and clean spaces at an affordable prices. This channel needs to be explored by both Indians and foreigners. There can be groups doing this.

these days one can get all information from the net. so a person can gather all information before travelling, be it a person of Indian origin or European or any other country. bookings can be done prior & paid for so there is no way of being over charged. yes, mode of transport etc can vary & everyone would like to make a fast buck. but this applies not just in India but all over the world. in recent times our tourism department has launched a new scheme called "atithi devo bhava" , so there should be some visible changes in attitude. Indians are far more friendlier & helpful towards tourists in general.
