Is there anyone here who recommends a certain laptop? I would like to get one but I want one that you can upgrade. Also what are the most important components for speed? Are you on a laptop?

Dell of HP/Compaq are reliable. Inspiron 1100 or Evo or Papilion P4 models from 2GHz, 256MB, 40GB, can upgrade up to 500MB RAM, cheaper external HDD. XP Professional for faster speed.
Try bargain with no sale fee auctions if you like.

There really isn't much on a laptop that can be upgraded, except for memory. As far as components are concerned, you should try for processor speed, hard drive space, make sure it has blue tooth capabilities, and wireless network built in as well. You might also want to invest in a port replicator, or docking station, for the laptop.

Look for good processor type/speed.

Depending on your computing savvy, and if you care whether or not it will void a warranty (if it still is in warranty when you want to upgrade)

You can usually add more: RAM, replace the hard drive, some models (CD/DVD drive)
