Good question. Numerical Weather Prediction models are time dependent models meaning that they produce the change in the atmosphere in time. The forecaster knows how to read these forecasts and visibly identify where storms are forming, the direction in which they are moving, the precipitation expected from each storm, and so on. It is a job of basically interpreting what the model has produced for some specified time in the future that the meteorologist wishes to analyze.
