Ratio
A ratio is a comparison of two numbers. We generally separate the two numbers in the ratio with a colon (:). Suppose we want to write the ratio of 8 and 12.
We can write this as 8:12 or as a fraction 8/12, and we say the ratio is eight to twelve.

Examples:

Jeannine has a bag with 3 videocassettes, 4 marbles, 7 books, and 1 orange.

1) What is the ratio of books to marbles?
Expressed as a fraction, with the numerator equal to the first quantity and the denominator equal to the second, the answer would be 7/4.
Two other ways of writing the ratio are 7 to 4, and 7:4.

2) What is the ratio of videocassettes to the total number of items in the bag?
There are 3 videocassettes, and 3 + 4 + 7 + 1 = 15 items total.
The answer can be expressed as 3/15, 3 to 15, or 3:15.

So let us look at a few of your problems so you can get the idea.

12. 18cm: 1.8 cm would be the same as 18/1.8 or 180/18 or 10
16. You need to convert km to cm first
18. You need to convert lb ot oz first
20. You need to convert kg to g first
22. 2592 students: 144 teachers would be the same as 2592/144
Then you need to do the math until you find out how many students there are to one (1) teacher.

Good Luck!

12) 18/1.8 = 10:1

16) 1km = 1000m = 1000 * 100 cm

200:800000 = 2:8000 = 1:4000

18) there are 16 ounces in a pound [ i think, im metric]

so 13oz:2*16 oz = 13:32

20) 1kg = 1000g
2*1000g:90g = 2000:90=200:9

22) 2592:144
div by 4 gives
648:36
div by 36 gives
18:1 or a ratio of 18 students per teacer
