He wants you to abstain from alcohol for several reasons. First, as the others have said, it thins your blood and affects clotting. Second, it could affect your blood pressure. And third, it could mix bad with whatever anesthesia they give you and have bad side effects possibly resulting in a heart attack or death. I would take his advice because you wouldn't want to stay in the hospital any longer than necessary. Good luck with you procedure!

Alcohol acts as a blood thinner! That could cause you to bleed to easily and longer than usual.
