I practice Paganism, and I've used the board a countless number of times and nothing bad ever happened to me!I only believe in two types of spirits: good ones and disturbed ones. So what's the big deal people? And why would a plain piece of cardboard work if you didn't consecrate it?I mean,Really! So could someone please tell me what the big deal is?

I think that Ouija boards bring spirits back that are not supposed to be. I do not want to conjure a spirit that is evil, or disturb in your terminology. I do not believe in messing with the spirit of those who should not be lingering about with man

There are some spirits out there that will hurt you if they can. Ouija Board is one way to let them get next to you.

A piece of cardboard works as well as a consecrated board, because it's the intent and will behind the working that counts. Not how much salt and water you put on it, or how many pretty words you say over it.

I guess someone who is just using the board as a party trick or a joke, can't understand. It's those people who make up meanings and things that give Ouija boards a bad rep. Also, someone who may get bad news from the board or hear something they don't like may interpret that as evil

There are people out there that are very susceptible to the harassment of the disturbed spirits. I know that there are people that have had bad incidents involving the Ouija board and I suppose the unexplained is better explained by calling it evil.

this question worries me quite a bit. i am a pagan, i practice hermetic magick, buddhism, taoism and have studied and practiced wicca to great lengths, although i do not consider myself wiccan at this time.

a ouija board does not have to be consecrated in order to work. it is a communication device to contact other entities. as with any communication device, there can be repercussions. just like a chat room, you may think you are speaking to one person but really another. you may think the person you are speaking to is a certain type of person, but may be another. the big difference between the two is that at least the person is human, but you will never know what kind of entity you are conversing with.

by using a ouija board, you are sending an invitation. an invitation can be a dangerous thing if you don't know who or what you are inviting. you may think it's Isis. but it could be something else, and specifically calling out an entity doesn't guarantee that's what you will get. on top of that, some entities may remain dormant for long periods of time, but still be hanging out. you think you've bidden them farewell, but that's not the case.

playing around with one is dangerous. and most pagans who have done their homework, do not bother entities - be it dead humans or another kind. necromancy is really rather egotistical of us on this plane of existence. they are not for us to use and converse with at our beck and call. i only call out to them to honor them, never to invite them into a conversation. that goes with god/dess archetypes as well.

you will practice paganism as you see fit, that's the nice part about this spiritual path. i only feel that, since you asked the question, i should answer it honestly.

there is just a heck of a lot more out there than mere spirits. and just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

Because the average human being needs answers about the "unknown"...
Because some have experienced it...
Because it's there...

You need a way to communicate and the letters in the alphabet is one.
there are more. This "game" was a marketing beauty! Imagine, the concept: playing on the consumer's mind and fears. The product? Even at 7 you can have the scare of your live with this game because of the message it carries...

This fear about what happens after life is an old one. Many ideas passed by !

But still, we don't have the answer...

you Pagan?well,Merry meet to ya,brother,or sister?anyways, the reason why ppl think that the ouija board is of the evil is b/c they think that all else is just like our religion.they dont want to take the time to study the thought about the ouija board or practice it until they master it.you have to practise something b4 you can really explain about it right?so why all the fuss?b/c they are so stubborn onto what they believe and they want to cause an argument.ppl should practice and study it first b4 they get to judging things like this.anyways, hope you have a gr8 rest of the day!
dark blessings to you enchanted one,

Personally I think that when people mess with this kind of stuff that really dont know what they are doing bad stuff can happen. Just because a spirit tells you something - doesnt mean that its true. They like to play games with people and scare them.

it comes from the teachings of organized religion - catholic and protestant in particular. This was not so in pre-roman Europe. With the comming of the Roman conquerors 2000 years ago the Christian religion came after and the laws effected all of society from there on - this was imported to the new world america and canada and all the other countries that western europeans came to.

It is said to be evil because it is putting your faith in something lower thatn God, something man made. Using it just for fun isnt bad, but if you started to worship it, than that would be the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim definition of evil. Its not the board but how you use it.
