My daughter was using my laptop with headphones and when she went to put the headphones on it shocked her. Now my cpu has serious static when music or sounds are played.

could be possible but hard to say if thats the true problem..

Yes, static electricity can very easily damage electrical components of a computer. Try using a different set of headphones to see if the headphones were damaged and not the computer.

Yes and no.. I have had things like that happen when I have several students in my lab and they are wearing coats... Just unplug the computer and wait then plug it in.. Generally it is best to touch something metal before your computer anyway.. Discharges the static...
