What can I use to water proof a bamboo water spout for my pond from getting moldy and still be safe for my fish and plants??

Would like it to still look natural (not shiny), but if not, that is ok...

I would suggest a satin exterior polyurethane. Put on several coats. I would probably do 4 or 5 myself. The more the coats, the thicker the finish, the more protection. Allow it to fully cure far past their suggested time, as it is going to be for living creatures. The test is to hold it right up to your nose, can you smell even the smallest whiff of chemical smell? Even licking it. It shouldn't give a metallic or bitter taste.

Aquarium safe epoxy might work, but it would probably be shiny. Another paint that might work would be clear Polyurethane, but it might take a long time to completely cure. Some of the brushable water clean-up urethane's that you can get at "Wally wurld" might even do the trick, but again I'd give it a really long time to cure, like maybe a month to 6 weeks. Then test on some poor feeder fish.-----PeeTee
