I don't care which party they belong to, politicians are bottom feeders and should not be siphoning off of the tax base. This goes from the President down to the local city council member.

Q Does the President think it's a good idea that Speaker Pelosi have a large government military jet available to her to back and forth to California?

MR. SNOW: After September 11th, the Department of Defense -- with the consent of the White House -- agreed that the Speaker of the House should have military transport. And so what is going on is that the Department of Defense is going through its rules and regulations and having conversations with the Speaker about it. So Speaker Hastert had access to military aircraft and Speaker Pelosi will, too.

Try and be realistic. Do you really think that the President of the United States should fly American Airlines? He has Air Force One because he must be protected as our Commander in Chief. Even if you wish to forgo all of the prestige, pomp and circumstance, he needs to be completely protected and in secure surroundings at all times. I can think of a lot of squandered money in our government and there's a lot of perks in government that I don't think are necessary. But I'm sorry, this is not one of those cases. The Speaker of the House is two heartbeats away from the Presidency and she is in a position that requires a higher level of security and protection than any person either of us will likely meet in our lifetime. It's only common sense.

There are far more frivolous expenditures that suck the blood out of tax payers. Comparatively speaking, you're talking pennies. Did you know that each Senator and Congressperson has a staff of 25 or 30? Multiply their salaries and perks times 535 and you've got enough money to buy the Boeing Company.

She should have access to a aircraft, but the same type previous Speakers had, if she isn't happy with that, she should buy a ticket on what she wants to fly on. Why should she get to say which plane she gets?

Security. Pelosi is 3rd in line to the presidency!

I bet you don't mind people like you writing off your 750 BMW's, meals, corporate, or often private aircraft, among about 10m000 other things, off of your taxes, do you? That means WE pay for them!

They run the country, or try to so they have buisness all over, they should get transportation, but not a private plane for themselves to use whenever. I say give Mrs. Speaker a one way ticket to Canada. I would pay for that!

What do you want them to do? Walk from the Capitol to California? She actually requested to just fly commercial and they wouldn't let her for security reasons. Get a clue.
