The Gulfstream flies up to 10 and has a range of over 4,000 miles. San Francisco is 2,500 miles from DC. What does she need an airliner for?

She is certainly entitled to the military jet as Speaker of the House (for Homeland Security purposes) but why does she need such a huge extravagant jet (the 757 she is requesting)? Hasn't she heard of global warming?

The request for a larger plane was not made by Ms. Pelosi but by the House Sargeant At Arms Ms. Pelosi said she would travel commercially if there was no plane that would have been able to make the trip however the Sargeant At Arms made the request based on the fact that Ms. Pelosi represents the state of CA vs. IL, where Hastert represents. There is a great difference in terms of distance between D.C. and IL vs. D.C and CA. the request made for Ms. Pelosi is not new for a speaker, who is second-in-line in presidential succession. A defense source said the speaker's regular access to a military plane began after the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Tony Snow, White House spokesman stated today that said the negotiations over Pelosi's transport have been conducted solely by the House sergeant-at-arms and the Pentagon, with no direct involvement by the speaker or her office or the White House.

The concern was in refueling stops that would have to be made. The Gulfstream plane Hastert used could fly from D.C to IL and back without having to make a refueling stop. If Ms. Pelosi uses it, it would be able to travel one way non stop ONLY under optimal wind conditions and would therefore need to refuel along the way which is a security concern.

It was also to accomodate other members of the CA delegation who will have to pay a fare to travel on it, it would not be a free ride. This also included trips back to see the people who put her in office NOT for personal pleasure.

Q Does the President think it's a good idea that Speaker Pelosi have a large government military jet available to her to back and forth to California?

MR. SNOW: After September 11th, the Department of Defense -- with the consent of the White House -- agreed that the Speaker of the House should have military transport. And so what is going on is that the Department of Defense is going through its rules and regulations and having conversations with the Speaker about it. So Speaker Hastert had access to military aircraft and Speaker Pelosi will, too.

This situation clarifies one thing crystal clear for all of us, left, right or center. All politicians are the same; it's just window dressing when they chant a party mantra. The only politician that cares about America is one who risks it all for his beliefs aka Joe Lieberman.

Nancy Pelosi is entitled to a Military (not private) Plane as she is (cringe and swallow back the bile) Speaker of the House. She is not entitled to demand the type of plane but Courtesy dictates it should be commensurate with her position. Does this mean a C32? Absolutely not. Does it mean a GulfStream? Yes. And, if she were truly valiant about her beliefs and convictions she would have chosen the venerable C-130 as it has the distance, is readily available with a VIP package and the CA Air National Guard could have provided the services.

In the end, it proves Nancy is all for Nancy and no one else. Vote Giuliani in '08 and end this mess.

Pelosi had a jet because of the fact she replaced into Speaker of the residing house and lived in California. She isn't bitter relating to the jet. the certainty that cons are specializing in such subject concerns exhibits that they have no longer something of surely interest to assert.

Yup it comes with the job. Denny only had to go to Illinois she has to go to California. This requires more comfort. It is hard enough to sit 2.5 hours from DC to Chicago but 5.5 to SF is harder. I'll bet if Denny Hastert or ol' Newt got a bigger plane the neocons wouldn't have said a word.

No. She's a wealthy woman and can afford her own plane. Besides all of our tax dollars are going to the mess in Iraq, and we definitely need more money to feed that quagmire. I've noticed that, no matter what party you're in, the more "experience" you have, the more corrupt you are. She simply knows how to manipulate the system in order to benifet herself. I'm a Democrat, but this situation goes against everything the Democrats campaigned for in 2006. I can understand if it's an emergency, or if it's necessary to get something done in the government. However, if she uses this jet for personal use, than that is simply inexcusable.

can someone please cite something...

both where she exactly requested a 747.... the exact type that Hastert had... and the exact mileage of each...

I hear a lot of accusations... and I've read several fox news stories that mention NONE of this?

so please... where are you getting your info?

all I've seen, according to Fox News... was that she asked, not demanded, a larger plane, type not specified, that would be able to fly from Washington to S.F.?

again... someone please cite something...

99 percent of what I'm reading seems pure rumor mill? is that what news is to Republicans now?
