Best I've seen, in my opinion, is Peter Schmeichal. I also think Nigel Martyn was under-rated. I used to play in goal and I've noticed over the years that outfield players are quite ignorant of what constitutes "good" goalkeeping, and regularly pick goalies that aren't so good. The most difficult skills are taking crosses - especially judging which ones to go for - and one-on-one's. The main thing is judgement. Because you don't get a second chance (usually) you can't make mistakes, so judgement is the most important and difficult skill. That's why someone like David James, who had the skill to be great and not just very very good, isn't considered great, because when he was younger his judgement wasn't so great. But I think that's unfair as a criticism now, and he's also one of the best I've seen. I used to like Joel Bats too.

I thought Gordan Banks was afantastic, Aaron Flahaven would have potentially been the best I think. Shaka Hislop was good too. David James was until the past five games having an incredible season and I think he deserves a call back to England, Robinson is graceful, Lehrmann is ok but very annoying whenever He plays for Germany. Pat Jennings was pretty good. Alan Knight was marvelous

I hate to say this but the greatest Keeper I have had the displeasure of watching is without doubt Peter Schmeichel, he can hold a candle up to the legendary Lev Yashin so that says something about how great a Keeper Schmeichel was.
I hate United but lets face it he was the best, even better than Buffon.
There is an exceptional talent in Russia at the moment his name is Igor Akinfeev, expect to see him at one of Europe's big guns soon. I've only seen him play a few times but he is a class act and he's only 19!!!

The best goalie right now is probably Pinto from the Spanish League's Valencia. The best goalie was Goycochea......goooooool.

Gianluigi Buffon who plays for juventus as well as the italian national team is arguably the best keeper in the world. That is why no one could score a goal (except themselves) against the italian naitonal team during the world cup until the final match.
