When I was first in China in 1992, I saw virtually no obese people. But now there are many, especially young Chinese people. I associate this increase in obesity to the growth of fast food in China. In fact, of all the obsese teens in China I have talked to, all of them are regulars at McDonalds.
McDonalds did some clever marketing when they came to China in the early 1990s. They focused on children as their target. There seems to be a universal desire among children to eat that kind of food. Then they get hooked. Now there are McDonalds everywhere and many adults eat it, too. Chinese fast food is growing, too.
Those who stick to a strictly Chinese diet are rarely obese.

I have always wondered about that, because i have only seen like 10 fat Chinese persons in my life, but then again i am not even sure if they were Chinese.

There are fat Chinese people, but Asians in general tend to eat a better diet than we do in the US. The eat more rice & vegetables, less meat, and much less fried junk food.

Does it have to do with the fact they drink lots of tea?
I've seen a few though... and they've got some traditional characters such as 'the happy buddha' that are really fat...

They don't eat cheese or drink milk as much as we do. Those are root of being fat.
American do not have much physical exercise, if they do it is because they like to do. Chinese people do more physical exercise because they have to do in daily living.

I have been to China and I did not see obese people. This is because they always eat less than us, they don't drive, they ride bikes, they always eat some sort of vegetable in their foods, and it's also in their genes.

I never see fat Europeans either. I only see fat Americans.

i know right? i think is cause of the way they eat in china then when they have a kid in U.S its genitics
