All those parents on there, whether they admitted it or not, put tremendous pressure on those children to succeed. You could see the chinese girls parents disappointment when she wasn't doing so well. Encouragement and opportunities for their potential yes, but only if that's what the kids wanted. Your right. Dante's parents didn't mention his own happiness.

No, it should not have been how they could make Dante's life happy. You see no one can make another happy. Only that person can make that person happy, no one else is capable of this really. They can do tons of things to try to make Dante happy it doesn' mean Dante will CHOOSE to be happy. They could however focus on what things would bring JOY to Dante's life.

did anyone else find ALL those kids rather annoying.... and the parents even more annoying... ? and yes, the double-barrelled woman with 4 kids seemed the strangest of the lot. :)
i think that they were right to ask the question just the way they did - ie how can we manage this so that BOTH we and Dante have our needs met/get some pleasure out of each other and life? it's not healthy to concentrate on trying to make your kids happy at the expense of your own goals/desires/needs - just leaves you unhappy and them feeling guilty.
