i have pop ups in my desktop but i dont want to download anything on my computer.

As the computer is booting press your "F8 Key" repeatly which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" . Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
After into safe mode,run a anti-spyware to killllllllll the spyware and adware on you pc.

That's spyware if they pop up on desktop when you are not using a browser. You need to run an anti-spyware download. Sorry. Try Adaware free download from lavasoft.com
if the pop-ups appear when you are using IE then turn on IE's pop-up blocker option.

Without downloading anything, your only hope is to turn on your popup blocker.

most browsers have pop up blockers included on them, look around for it and activate it, go to control panel, internet options and click on privacy tab, at the bottom you will see the pop up blocker, that is for ie6

Use Internet Explorer 7.0 or Mozilla Firefox. By default they will stop all popups ... you can selectively enable sites you trust. If you do not have them, you will need to download them ... sorry.
