Driving along a 40mph road, i looked down at my speedo and saw I was doing 46/47 mph. Could i receive a speeding ticket/points on my licence. I didnt see any flash behind me so i hope i havent been caught. Have they got cameras that dont flash? Has anyone dont this speed down a 40mph limit road and nothing has happened?

My speedometer is off by 4 mph (it's good that it registers 4 mps faster than I'm driving, keeps me in check). You need to pay attention to this because you will get a ticket if you're speeding and this is not an acceptable excuse.

The general rule is speed limit + 10% +2 Mph, so at 46 you might not be flashed but at 47 you would, how ever car speedos are allowed to show speeds up to 10% too fast, (nothing too slow) so if it said you were going 46 it may actually mean you were doing anything between 41 and 46 mph.
If you receive nothing in the post in the next 14 days you are safe

You ask a number of questions:
1. Yes you could get a 'ticket' if you've been caught by a static camera or other static device. If you had been caught by a mobile camera or seen by the police, they would have pulled you. Its a fine and 3pp.
2. No flash might mean no camera, or you just did not see it, or a radar dectection system (very new in UK) that measure average speed without a flash. Unless on a major road most unlikely.
3. Are you very a new driver? Drivers speed all the time and don't get caught, some speed rarely and get caught. It's a matter of luck and/or radar detection devices. You'll save worrying if you don't speed or get a speed camera detector which will warn you of the speed limit (any TomTom sat-nav device has these)

the cameras with two round holes on the business side don't flash. if the speedo says 46/47 you can usually take 5 or 10% off for true speed (if the wheels and tyres are standard) and I believe most cameras are set to the speed limit plus 10%. You are probably ok.

If reader exceeded posted speed limit on UK roadway monitored by speed cameras the process that triggers recording process is automatic. As is the due process. Just because you did not see the flash is not proof this portion of process did not occur.
I don't recall reading the Scotland A9 has flash units but that could have been writer oversight. I read your question three days after it was posted. When you read this there should be lips
at your ear to tell you public flogging has been reinstated.

The second answer'er is correct - in California you can technically get a ticket for being 1mph over the speed limit. Most cops however - give you a 5-10mph leeway and usually ignore you if you are driving with the speed of traffic (safe).
The only speeding cameras we have here are gigantic boxes that sit on the side of an intersection and they flash when they take pictures. Most people I know of are against speeding cameras. At night you can see this thing flashing all the time... I've been told it gets you if you are 5mph over the speed limit. You get your ticket and a picture of you in the mail within a week.

Speedo's can be out by up to 10% and they take this into consideration. And it would be unfair in a 40 for someone with a speedo thats 10% lower than what their doing and thinking their doing 40 but actually doing 44/45mph and then getting fined for it . They probably have the Camera set to 50mph or somthing similar.
i wouldn't worry about it. im sure nothing will come of it
Its like you can do over 80mph on the M25 and not get caught (but don't hold me to that)
hope that helps

If you were in washington d.c. and you didnt see a flash you were probably driving in the daytime. They have cameras all over. Since you did'nt state where you are and did not get pulled over, you'll be fine. If you are in an area that is real nit picky you would be stopped or flashed at. Sounds like you just got your license. Good to obey the limits than to pay for the splurge of surge.

If it didnt flash then i would not worry i know they have those sneaky ones now that dont flash but there not that common. They paint them bright yellow in the UK now because everyone was going nuts about them being positioned to catch people and use them to make money not for safety as they claimed. The French had the best idea as soon as they put them up the locals pulled them down god love em.

Most cameras flash - and most cameras you can see.
Yes you can get a ticket for 46 or 47. A ticket is not for "speeding" - it is for not traveling at a reasonable and prudent speed. (You can actually get a ticket from an officer for doing the speed limit if conditions are poor - like heavy rain).
