Do you have any firewalls up?

If so, turn them off.

Are the two computers in the same workgroup? right click on my computer and click properties and check the workgroup.. verify they are both in the same workgroup. Second, you might want to check the permissions list, If only members of the administrative group is allowed to view your shared documents then you have to create and admin account. To make it easy on you, you can use the windows built in feature. Go into control panel there should be a network setup wizard. Walk through the process, it would give you a general idea.

There's problems sharing a network between xp and vista. You may need to upgrade the other computer to vista.
