I have to also agree with Cando. why is this same, lame question repeatedly posted? everyone has their own tastes...we are all attracted to different "types" whether we are straight or gay. a butch woman is STILL a woman, not a man! why do people like you keep saying "why not go out a get a real man?"
it's ludicrous and insulting. just like if we suggested you just date someone of the same gender. because you're straight! DUH!
and no, to the ridiculous person who assumes we all use "strap-ones"....no, we all don't. if I was attracted to men, I'd be straight. my partner is actually pretty femme, but I have nothing against a butch woman.

Cando's pretty much said it.
Personally, I'm a butch who likes other butches. I think that much of what constitutes "femininity" is stupid and oppressive. I reject in myself and I don't like it in others.

To quote a popular OK Go song: Oh, here we go, here we go, here we go again . . .
How many times will I have to answer this question? How many times will I have to deal with stupid men and women who can't seem to understand that there is a difference between sex and gender, and that people like what they like- there's no accounting for taste! Okay, let's go over it again:
Gender: how you look, dress, style yourself, talk, act, and behave.
Sex: your body, your chromosomes, your hormones, your genitals, and your secondary sex characteristics (i.e. voice, height, fat distribution, skin texture, body hair, etc., etc..).
People have various sexual orientations; they have sexual attraction to sex, whether it's the same sex as they are (gay/lesbian), the opposite sex as they are (straight), or both (bisexual). Attraction to gender, however, is a completely different thing. The majority of people, it seems, have a concordant sex and gender (the masculine men and feminine women). But there are also a lot of people whose sex doesn't match up with their gender (i.e. masculine women and feminine men). And you better believe that not everyone likes the ones who match up. I myself am bisexual, and I love masculinity, on both men and women. For me, I love each sex, but I love them when combined with masculinity. For lesbians who like butches, it's just one grade different: they love women, and they love masculinity.
And you better believe that a butch woman is a woman, and not a man. Underneath her clothes, she's got a lovely womanly body. Think about all the natural differences between men and women: body hair, natural smell, voice, skin texture, conversational style, levels of emotional connection . . . the list goes on. No matter how butch a woman is, her masculinity is different, but no less potent, than the masculinity of a man. That's why lesbians don't want men; they aren't attracted to them. They are attracted to women, albeit a different type of woman than what's usually portrayed as the typical woman.
Which brings me to another point . . . beauty is quite a subjective thing. You end your question with "EW!!!" and expect nice answers? You do realize that a woman who loves butch women and doesn't understand femme-femme attraction can post exactly the same question asking why lesbian women fool around with femme women- grody! I hope you can take a minute to say to yourself "Well, I don't understand what some lesbian women find attractive in butches, but that's what they dig, so I'm cool with it." That's definitely more respectful, more tactful, and will catch a lot more flies than a vinegar response that insults the possibilty of attractiveness of butch women.
Not all lesbians like butches. There are a lot of femmes out there, and a lot of lipstick lesbians who have no attraction whatsoever to butches. But for those who do, you've got to understand that it's just something they like, and these women aren't subsitutes for men, and they wouldn't want men anyways.
I'll finish up with my favorite quote:
"I love butch girls. Girls with slick, shiny, barbershop haircuts, trimmed so short your fingertips can barely grip it. Girls with shirts that button the other way. Girls that swagger... Girls who get stared at in the ladies' room, girls who shop in the boys department, girls who live every moment looking like they weren't supposed to. Girls with hands that touch me like they have been exploring my body their entire lives... It is the girls that get called sir every day who make me catch my breath, the girls with strong jaws who buckle my knees, the girls who are a different gender who make me want to lay down for them." - Tristan Taormino
