because its still roaming at 80g's and only lets you be mobile for up to 80-90 ft if theres no walls interfering...what you need is the netgear super G which ups your speed to about 160-200 g's and can penetrate walls better which gives you up to 300 ft easily.....i'm running on the super g right now on my laptops.....look for them in staples or best buy for less than 60$ if you catch them on sales......good luck

This is a broad answer that is based on a lot of factors.

Wireless is susceptible to a lot of interference: microwave, housephones (2.4 frequency), cellphones, location, traffic etc. If you have a wireless G router then you speed is probably 11mb and thats if your internet is not open which means your neighbor is probably on it downloading music. If the router is in a room with closed doors then the signal is not going to be as strong. You can always add an access point to keep the signal going but make sure you have a G router and calculate the factors that might be affecting your connectivity. Wired connection are faster because the only factor they face is how many people are connected to the internet and how much traffic they are generating which would reduce your speed. If you think your router should perform better then a last resort would be to try a new router. I hope this made sense and helped. Good Luck

Hi, I have a Netgear Dg834G 54mbps router. Its about 20 feet away from my laptop at the minute and has 2 walls between me and it. I am presently connecting at 48mbps so not much loss there. Take the other advice a get a wireless G router or the super one. Intersting to see its only $60 in america. Be about .£80 here in England unless you can get a bargain on ebay. Just goes to show we getting ripped off again over here

b/c it's an 11mbs wireless router?

or you've got a G/A wireless router and a lot of interference in the area.

unless you've got something better then 10mbs for your broadband though, you're not getting screwed out of any bandwidth
