It started with pictorial art and written sign language.Cavemen were the first to write and it developed over the years.words were developed over a period of time.Each country has its own written language,Man has always used signs to project a meaning.Letters are a form of art to express an Idea.

The Phoenician civilization contributed a lot to letters and writing.. Ancient Egyptians, so on and so forth... basically in the Mediterranean and North African region.

no one can be sure...there were some styles with sounds and others with pictures for words but ther are probably many we dont know. probably by the egyptians tho, hyrogliphics. its the oldest one we no of.
