If your iPod has locked up on you, your first course of action is to make sure the Hold switch isn't locked. (Quit snickering, it happens to everybody once in a while.) Once you've made sure it's in the unlocked position (there should be no little lock icon in the corner of the screen), if your 'Pod still isn't responding to the controls, it's time to try a reset.
There are two different ways to reset an iPod, depending on which model you have.
For Early iPods(The iPod, iPod with Scroll Wheel and iPod with Touch Wheel):
Turn the Hold switch on, then turn it off again.
Hold down the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple appears, "around 6 to 10 seconds" according to Apple.
For Later iPods (The iPod with Click Wheel, iPod photo, and iPod mini):
Turn the Hold switch on, then turn it off again.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple appears, again, roughly 6 to 10 seconds.
Didn't work?
Make sure the iPod has power by connecting to your power adapter. Try repeating it a couple times before you give up and starting thinking about restoring your iPod.
Some of your custom settings missing? Sorry about that, but it's pretty normal when you reset your iPod. None of your music or other files will be wiped. (If you run a restore on your iPod, all of them will be wiped!)
Your iPod doesn't work even after a reset? Then it's probably time to try to restore your iPod with the iPod Updater.

Try on of the these solutions: 1. Take it off hold (common mistake) 2. Press the menu and center button (at the same time) to restart it. Do that until the Apple symbol comes up. This means its restarting the ipod 3. Just put it on the charger and leave it. Wait a couple of hours 4. If all else fails, call the Help number it gives in the instructions.

Did you leave it out in the cold for a long time? I know my friend had this problem where her ipod -she had a mini- wouldn't turn on no matter what she did. The best bet would ask a professional, or someone who works at the place you bought it. It could be that it is taking a while to turn on...honestly I bet it's broken.

Have you tryed charging your ipod? Maybe it's on hold and you don't know it, if by any chance it will not turn off, hold the menu and middle button, and flip the hold switch. Hope this helped.

maybe ur ipod is out of battery, this can happen eventually. u might have to pay for a replacement fee. that or it froze and u have to hold down the center and the play/pause button at the same time. or maybe it is on and ur blacklight is off, that makes it hard to tell.
