Battlerat has the right idea. DO NOT peel off the bark, and do use a rooting hormone. The thin green layer just under the bark of woody plants is where the living tissue of the plant is located. Removing the bark will damage or destroy that living tissue.

The method of propagating plants depends on the variety of plant. Some species are very easy while others require more work and specific conditions. With some plants, you can just cover a branch with soil and it will root in while still attached to the mother plant, and then once the roots are established, you can cut the tie to the parent and you have a two plants.

Most plants will root out at an existing leaf node, so remove the leaves at the bottom of the branch, apply the root hormone to the node and the bottom cut, and place it in the soil. Keep it moist, but not waterlogged.

Here is a website that has a good step by step proceedure to follow that should be lots of help. http://www.instructables.com/id/E4EN90DB8GEP285ZPL/

I suggest that you do NOT peel the bark off the twig you are attempting to plant. I do suggest that you dip the base of the twig into a growth hormone called Root Tone. This hormone stimulates the growth of roots in cuttings, and your cutting should show signs of growth within 2-3 weeks.

The ansewr is "A". Peeling off the bark allows a greater number of bacteria to be exposed to the soil, causing rot, rather than roots.

roots, like branches will come out the side and not out the bottom of the core. peeling the slip will offer more opportunity for root development.
