Well one thing is fact these people do not know their history. Germany did not own a monopoly on the camps or treatment of the innocent. I know you will not believe this but there has been a holocaust in this country (I mean other then what we did to the native Americans) take a look at Johnson s Island (northern Ohio); Camp Douglas (Chicago); and Elmira (New York).
The official U.S. position on the treatment of Confederate prisoners of war during The War for Southern Independence would shock many modern Americans. The data, facts and statistics have been thoroughly eliminated from American history books. One must research the original documents to discover the horrible truth.
During the Civil War (1861-1865), the U.S. House of Representatives passed the following resolution: "Rebel prisoners in our hands are to be subjected to a treatment finding its parallels only in the conduct of savage tribes and resulting in the death of multitudes by the slow but designed process of starvation and by mortal diseases occasioned by insufficient and unhealthy food and wanton exposure of their persons."
One Yankee prison commander boasted that he had killed more Confederate soldiers than any Union officer on the front battle lines.
The story of Confederate prison camps, especially Andersonville, has been misrepresented. There was no deliberate attempt to mistreat northern POWs. The South asked the North to send doctors and medicine, and they tried to exchange the prisoners.
The North refused and finally the Confederacy offered the North cotton and gold as payment to take them without exchange. Again, the North refused to do so. They knew the Confederate States of America would be honor bound to try to feed and house the Union POWs and to do so would hamper the Confederate war effort.
God Bless You and Our Southern People.

The British were NOT the first to institute concentration camps. The first concentration camps were set up by the Spanish in Cuba.
The camps set up by the British had a totally different function from what is normally considered a concentration camp. They settled non combatants in such a way that the Boer army could not receive succour from them. The conditions in the camps were, however, scandalous and drew great criticism in the House of Commons etc.
Read "The Boer War" by Thomas Pakenham and "Jan Christian Smuts" by J. C. Smuts.

Hi Jessie, glad you are getting the word out about these camps. First one I saw was In Sandpoint, ID about five or more years ago. I could not believe it at first, then when I saw all those people with handcuffs on and standing in the line, it was scary. These were PEACEFUL people in Seattle that were against the world trade. It is a long story. But anyway, ever state has two or more. For get these rude remarks in here, soon every one will beable to see them up close will find out about them. Government has known for a long time about civil unrest that will happen with the NWO and they knew about the bailout way over a year ago. The world knows this to, only ones seem to not know is the dumb down Americans, who believe there government gives a d--- about them. When things get so bad after this bailout then they will know the have been screwed, left with no jobs, no money, no home then they will be upset, but way to late to do any good. Hitler went after money, guns and troops on the street, then no jobs and food and this is how he got control of his people. I am so glad a brave man like you with your knowledge put this in here. Getting the word out, and letting people know. These are the first things that will happen then all he-- will break out. There are more coffins across the country people are reporting to Alex Jones, I found pictures of them on search and they are plactic. Remember as a child when I ask my mom what happen to the jews and could it ever happen here? She said no the jews were stupid and did not fight. I say the Americans are stupid and doing nothing and it will happen here and is happening here too. Also Seattle ,WA has a camp, FEMA camps are all over...Good work

Start your research with the original concentration camps the British had in the Boer wars, including the purpose, execution, health disasters, political consequences, etc. Then you can move on to the World Wars, and don't forget to include the American relocation of the west coast people of Japanese heritage (and their belated compensation). You might even be able to sneak in something about how some young men from those camps got to the 442nd RCT. Now go do your homework.

The concentration camps were originally for enemies of the German State, then were expanded to include Jews, Homosexuals, Gypsies, some POWS were held in this and made to work in factories alongside the camps.
The concentration camps used inmates as Kapos or enforcers for the SS (Schutzstaffel or protective section soldiers) to keep order in the camps.
The inmates were used for medical experiments and also for bizarre experiments concocted by sadistic Nazi doctors.
The inmates wore different colored triangles for the non-jews, with pink for homosexuals (which is why this is now used by gays as a pride symbol), blue for political prisoners, etc.
The Bayer pharmaceutical was once part of IG Farben which used slave labor for its factories.

50 is a big number. Here's one that might help:
Concentration camps were first instituted by the British during the Boer War.
I would take a guess that you are probably more interested in Nazi concentration camps from WWII though.

The reason for homework is not only to teach you facts, it is also to teach you how to research facts. When I try to research something on the internet, I usually start with ask.com, google.com and wikipedia.com. and go from there.
Try asking checking out "concentration camps" at the above three sites. You will generally find many links if they cannot give you enough information.
This is my standard response to someone obviously asking for homework help on the history answers page. To this I add now, if you want to define a word, go to Google.com and type in "define" and the word you would like defined. Or go to the Education & Reference answers category and choose "Homework Help."

At the camp 'Dachau',outside Munich, there was a sign, stating that the crematoria had been used, not the gaschamber. The sign continued to say that although true,it was not known why it was not used. The sign was put there by the Israeli Government, with the six-pointed star.An unusual piece of information.

I can give you one fact about concentrations camps - I cannot give you fifty. Above the gates at the Sachsenhausen and Dachau Concentration Camps was a sign in German that read : "Arbeit macht frei" - or Work makes (you) free/ (Work will set you free).
