It's probably your thermocouple (also called "flame sensor").
That's the little rod that bends over the pilot flame. When it fails, it no longer sends a message to your control and the system "thinks" the pilot is out so it shuts off the gas supply.

If you have a wrench, you can replace it yourself. They cost less than $50.00 and should be readily available from your local heating-air conditioning supplier.

You have not given enough info to get an answer. I don't know if your heater has a pilot light or hot surface ignition. I don't know if your furnace has mechanical controls or electronic controls. Get my point? You could have any of many problems with your furnace, but without more info, I can't even begin to tell you what the problem might be. I suggest the following at this point: If your furnace has a pilot light that is not lit, light it. Check to see if there is electric power to your furnace. Check to see if the gas valve is open. If your thermostat requires batteries, change them. Make sure your thermostat is set to "Heat" and the set temperature is set above the room temperature. If you've followed these steps and still have no heat, call a LICENSED HVAC contractor to get it going for you.

If it has a standing pilot light and it will not stay lit then you probably need a thermocouple replaced. Did you light it and hold the knob on the gas valve down for at least a minute.

Call a licensed HVAC contractor. They can locate and repair the problem.
Why would you wait when its cold and that jeopardizes your health and safety.??

Are you talking about the pilot light or the burner?
