CONCORD, N.H. - Veterans of Al Gore's past are quietly assembling a campaign to draft the former vice president into the 2008 presidential race — despite his repeated statements that he's not running.
His top policy adviser from his 2000 presidential campaign and other key supporters met Thursday in Boston to mull a potential Gore campaign. The participants and Gore's Nashville office both said Gore, who is in London, is not involved.
Elaine Kamarck, a veteran of the Clinton White House and Gore's policy guru in 2000, said the meeting was informal and shouldn't be taken as a sign there will be a Gore 2008 campaign.
Chris Mackin, a Boston consultant and Gore supporter, called it "an early stage conversation." But he added: "We're very serious about exploring this."
Gore's spokeswoman, Kalee Kreider, said the only campaign Gore is on right now is against global warming.

Gore is to Global Warming what Jimmy Carter was to Peace. He's better off being dedicated to global warming because he is one hell of a spokesman for the cause.
I hope he "stays the course" , and I think running for President would get in the way of that.
I think the Dems need to take a more mainline (middle of the road) approach to 2008, there is too much polarization going on right now, but it's b/c of the 5% that are stealing the limelight that are causing this. The 95% of us out here who'd like to speak up and vote our conscious cannot, b/c reps and dems are generally two far on one end or the other of the political spectrum to really appeal to those of us that make up the real voting public..

ALBERT Gore is the most qualified to run and win the Presidency. His intelligence is beyond question. His passion for the planet is needed if we are to survive the global warming crisis that EVERY credible scientist believes is happening. His 8 years experience as Vice President and his time in the Senate makes him the only viable candidate.
I hope Al Gore runs because he would definitely win and what a refreshing change that would be from the piece of crap that occupies the White House now.

Absolutely! He should run. He did not lose the last election, it was stolen from him by the Supreme Court. He won the popular election. He can win again. He never lost the last time.
Anything would be better than to have Hilary Clinton take the White House. PEOPLE wake up and smell the coffee! So far this nation has been controlled by the Bush/Clinton nexus for 20 years. Would you be willing to have this for another 4-8 years?
The Clinton policies and Bush policies are the same.
We are not a country controlled by dynastic political families.
So I say DRAFT AL GORE.

I'd say no. He has almost no chance of winning (all the crap that came up in his campaign in 2000 will come up doubly again) even if he is a "cooler, hipper, less stiff" Al Gore. There are legitimate Dem candidates -- let them shine. Gore has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar -- he wouldn't have done that as president!

I'd be interested in a Gore campaign. I don't know how it would play out, though. Yes, he lost in 2000, but he did win the popular vote; the Supreme Court ruled that Florida should stop recounting, which caused Bush to carry Florida and win the presidency. It would be interesting, though, to see Gore campaigning again, with 8 years of not being wooden.

Al Gore might as well run. Everyone else is. He does have the most experience in the executive branch of all possible candidates.

He had his shot in 2000. There are other candidates that I think would be able to beat him this time. The 2000 was his to lose...popular incumbent handing the reigns, good economy, political momentum but he STILL found a way to lose. People don't want him as President.
