My girlfriend and I are debating the meaning of the term "potty". Friends responses make me think it depends on where in the county you are from. I (from mid-atlantic) say potty refers to going #2. She (from mid-west) says it refers to going #1.

Where I am from, it refers to the thing, not what you do in it.

You and your girlfriend must have a lot of time on your hands!

With that being said ... the way I know it is that "potty" means both. Like if my boyfriend says "I gotta go potty", I'll ask "#1 or #2?". But USUALLY he says "I gotta pee" which is #1, or "I gotta take a S---" which is #2. But "go potty" can refer to either of them.

"Going potty" is just like going to the bathroom, or the loo. It's a general term referring to whatever happens to come out.
