It is a bad situation if he is too focused on the computer to do other things that need to be done, or if he isnt' watching the kids. For that reason, he needs to either find a way to stop the habit or go see a professional.
It is common for people who have ADD to get very focused on being on the computer or using a playstation or other electronic game.
People with ADD aren't necessarily hyper, especially adults. The main symptoms are a lack or focus, inability to concentrate, sometimes an impulsiveness or lack of planning or thinking of consequences. Other symptoms are being "forgetful" or scatterbrained, losing things frequently, and being unable to finish projects in a timely manner, or unable to arrive on time and always being late!
It is a tricky diagnosis and to have the diagnosis the person must have exhibited these symptoms since childhood. They may diminish at times, but can flare up again unexpectedly or in times of stress.
Do what you can to get him into a therapist. tell him it's for the sake of his children and important to you to go just for one visit to see what the "doctor" thinks.

You can't "get" him to do anything if he has ADD. He has a neurological disorder. It's biological, it's organic. It can't be controlled through psychotherapy or counseling or behavior modification or whatever.

It can, however, be controlled by certain medications, or through the use of neuro/biofeedback.
