I teach Special Education, but didn't get my first degree in Education. Because of the shortage of special education teachers, many schools (mainly middle school) will hire someone to teach ( you have to meet or fill some qualifications) on an alternative license, given that you have a specified time period to go back and get certification to teach, pass your state boards, etc. If you are not 100% sure this is the career for you, go observe in a special education classroom, or check out the possibilities of becoming a special education teaching assistant. That is a good way to get your feet wet without taking the dive. I'd check with your state requirements and local school board for openings and go from there. Also make sure to check out all the different areas in special education. I love my job, it is very rewarding, but there are some types of special education classifications that I have NO interest in teaching. Good luck!!!

Since you didn't state your limitations it will be hard to answer this question as in regards to you.
Therefore I'll give you an answer that refers to someone I know. This lady is totally blind. She did her graduate work at a university with "readers" and other special equipment. This lady has a master's degree in Special Education for the Visually Impaired. She teaches children that are either visually impaired or blind. I have watched her work with children and she is awesome. The children that are visually impaired or blind relate to her because she understands and she can give them encouragement.
There is a boy that I know that is totally deaf. He can not teach in a special ed. classroom because of his limitations, or so I think. He is a teacher's assistant for children that are deaf. His first year he was won an award for being the best teacher's assistant.
Your are only limited by what you think you can do, not by what you can actually achieve.
Call your local rehabilitation center, or your county school's office and they can guide you as to where you can get training.
Since you love kids you would be an asset to any one that has children in their care. Good luck in you endeavors.

Do you mean you have special needs yourself, or that you are qualified to handle children with special needs??? Your question leaves a lot of room for misinterpretation...
