There's another definition of anarchy which fits a lot better with me. And it's wonderful...

Anarchy is the "state" in which everyone takes FULL and complete responsibily for ALL actions. That means that there is no need for rules or regulations! Rules and regs are designed for a society which cannot achieve this...

I know that is an ideal which is getting pretty close to absolute Utopia! But still, can you imagine this?? for example: Cars - we can't take responsibility for mining the ores or fuels which are used to make and run them and the environmental damage which results, so they fail the test. Murder - that's not taking responsibility for how the victims family feels, so that's out as well. same with all crimes against other humans. There's no consequentialism in crimes against others, so our society must impose the consequences (i.e. jail) when we can't see them for ourselves.

As far as the practicalities of your question, have a look at things like the Franklin Dam dispute, the protests about S11 (the World Economic Forum gathering in Melbourne in 2000), the Jabiluka mine in Kakadu...in fact any protest that the conservation movement has been involved in!

There's another way to look at your question too...

Why do we get involved in such actions? It, to me, is about a frustration with the laws and regulations under which we live. One way to try to effect change is to get out on the streets and let your voice be heard! Especially if the frustration is shared by a large section of the community, like the Franklin dispute or the Patrick waterfront dispute that was mentioned.

I doubt that the Cronulla riots are real "anarchy", as, for mine, they were a product of some serious baiting by the right wing shock jocks who are unfortunately allowed to operate in our big cities. I'm all for free speech, but NOT when it spreads such a revolting message of hate and intolerance! The "riots' were a bunch of pissed thugs appeasing their animal instincts while cowering under the banner of a "free" Australia. What a crock! Don't they realise that they are just as much immigrant stock as those who they were fighting??

hehe...sorry...

Hope this helps, or at least provides some pointers for you!

Love and Light,

Jarrah

Examples Of Anarchy

maybe the cronulla riots? there is not much else that i can think of cause we are a pretty peaceful nation generally.

ok, then. lets find something else.

on a smaller scale, how about the patrick/stevedoring wharf dispute in 1998

or the moratorium against conscription for vietnam.

these may not be quite what you need though. i am very hard pressed to find something else though in regards to anarchy in oz.

maybe in general you can talk about the problems faced by the police in policing gangland areas. these gangs pretty much live how they please and do not obey or recognise the laws of our society.
