How do you make steam?

Hey, what is a cheap way to make steam? Steam like a steam maker (but I dont wanna pay that much for one). Is there any combination of ingrediants or chemicals that will make harmless steam? thanks

I am not sure if you mean steam or fog. if you mean steam, like for cleaning purposes, steam is water vapor that is heated to the boiling point;you need heat to make this happen. If you are talking about fog, like a fog maker for a party or halloween, you can combine dry ice (frozen Carbon Dioxide)and water. here the chemical reaction creates a fog or "steam" because when dry ice is put into contact with water vapour particles, the frozen carbon dioxide changes into a mixture of cold carbon dioxide gas and cold humid air. This causes condensation and the formation of fog.
So if its steam you need then you will probably have to buy a steam cleaner but if its "fog" you want you can buy dry ice online and combine it with water. I hope thats what you needed.

No, steam is steam. But there is a little more to it. Steam at atmospheric pressure is, you guess it 212 degrees Fahrenheit. But add pressure and make steam it will be hotter. At 1200 psi your 212 is now about 950 degrees. Hardly safe. Even at 212 degrees steam will burn you immediately. Be careful. As far as cheap goes, boiling water in a pan is cheap but maybe not useful, except for cooking. Chemicals, who knows. But steam is pure water, that's how you turn salt water into fresh. Water has all the ingredients for steam already, H2O. Little else is needed, except heat of course.
