In short, it is whatever you put your mind to, and how bold you are.
Keeping informed is a must. Without that, you don't know why you're doing anything. Donating to Doctors Without Borders, CARE International, or World Vision is good too, provided that you're not a poor student (I am, so this is out of the question!). Writing to the politicans is also a must. In Canada, since I'm Canadian, I should get on writing the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and my Member of Parlament soon. In the US, write to the President, congressmen, and the Secretary of State.
Then there's also informing others and keeping the issue alive in people's minds. If there's STAND at your school, join them. If not, form a student group of your own and create public awareness. It could be anything from flyers to demonstrations to fundraisers for aid to protests. Raise the issue in ordinary conversation with your friends and family. Forward them significant articles on the Darfur conflict. Write letters to your school newspaper, write for their opinion section, write letters to the mainstream newspapers' letters section.
Or, you can do what I'm doing for Darfur. Looking at it now, I have to be insane for participating in this. An international journalist, Avi Lewis, who came to our school this week, also said we're insane. I, with 19 other students from Grant MacEwan College are walking from downtown Calgary to downtown Edmonton (300 kilometers+), in Alberta, Canada, on April 22.
Called Walk for Darfur, the goals are to raise public awareness, raise funds for Doctors Without Borders, one of the last aid groups in the region, and pressure government through a letter-writing campaign. It's going to be painful and amazing at the same time!

As I said, it can be whatever you want to put your mind to! Heck, you can also form your own walk in support of this!
