I have a little book of Confuscious' philosophies that I've had for a couple years.
I don't know if the values are necessarily good for modern day, but it was fascinating.

I just read the next person's answer. Can't believe I didn't think of my absolute favorite author to recommend to you!!! I have a whole shelf dedicated to her writings in my bedroom. My favorites are the Emily trilogy (about my favorite character, Emily) and The Blue Castle (about love, kind of). Her favorite (Montgomery's, I mean) was The Story Girl (about childhood goings-on).

As far as their being girly, I completely see where that comes from. However, I wish that weren't the case. They're excellent books...

The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories written by Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century. The tales, some of which are originals and others not, are contained inside a frame tale and told by a collection of pilgrims on a pilgrimage from Southwark to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Beckett at Canterbury Cathedral.

There are many books on good morale values. Many of them are childrens books. Theres something wonderful to be learned from any book though. I suggest books by L.M. Montgomery. Kinda girly... but good characters and many lessons to be learned about appreciating life, family, and friends.
