you should probably go to their city/village website. or just read a local paper from there.

Our local communities in Illinois are considering a smoking ban. Personally, I hope it doesn't pass even though I'm not a smoker and I don't like to be in areas where smoking is occurring. It's easy for legislators and local committeemen to pass smoking bans rather than take an honest look at other things that are just as prevalent and also contribute to causing cancer such as radium in the local water supplies that exceeds national standards. Radium is naturally occurring in ground water but, just as radon gas causes lung cancer, a byproduct of radium is radon gas, and also causes cancer. Radon gas can be produced by taking a hot shower with water that contains substantial amounts of radium. The hot shower turns the radium to radon gas which you breathe and which all members of your household breathe and you could develop lung cancer. Additionally, if you boil water you are making radon gas with the same consequences. So maybe if you do a bit of research for your paper and find out what chemicals are contained in the drinking water of Fort Wayne and also what the cancer rate is in the city, what it was, say 10 years ago and what the population growth has been over 10 years, you might be able to enlighten people about the dangers of other air pollutants that are just as deadly and just as contributory to cancer, if not moreso.
Go to Fort Wayne City Hall, ask to see their minutes from their City Council Meetings and/or ask to speak to the Mayor. He/she could tell you if the measure has been voted upon, if it is in committee, when and if it will be coming up for vote and if there will be a public comment period and when that will be.
Get active! Get smart! Don't just take their word for it.

well...Here in Ohio. The smoking ban took effect the beginning of this year. and lawsuits where filed against the state. Now the issue is being placed back on the ballots again. I'm a smoker...and I agree with having public places such as...Hospitals, Malls, and restaurants, NON-Smoking. But places like Bars, and gatherings of placed like that where you have to be a certain age to get in.... That's just stupid. If you don't like it.. Don't go. Now they are trying to pass laws so you can't smoke in your CARS, Or your OWN HOME!!! ..that is if you live in an apartment or a 1/2 double. The only way you would be allowed to smoke in your OWN home is if you had a SINGLE dwelling house. Now that is going a little TO FAR!!

It is a constant tug of war between people fighting for our rights to live unhindered by the government and the mindless sheep people who believe our justice/prison system can be used to create some utopia based on their own imaginations.
Restricting a business owners right to open a smoking establishment is anti-American and horrible. Criminalizing smoking completely will only subject more innocent people to our ruthless courts and jails. Erode the illusion of freedom further and eventually be reversed once the power swings back to the hands of the rational people that aren't all up in my business.
If non-smoking establishments are so great - let it be the business owners decision. The smoking bans are conservative initiaves and it makes me laugh to think conservatives still consider themselves the "small govt" party....hahaha.

I think the the ban of smoking on public places it is another form of hupocricy of any nation's Goverment...For one hand they tax the cigarettes an arm and a leg...on this point they want you to smoke...so they can collect the big revenues...Then when you decide to quit smoking and try to buy as they call them effective medications to assist you on the ordeal of quit smoking they cost more than $200.00 per prescription- 2 weeks supply...this unfair cost , that the drug manufactures impose on the populations prooves that the Goverments of the world they do n't moove a fingure to make the Drug manufactures to lower the prices ...so can be afforable for a smoker to quite.....But I bit the system...I raise my own Tabaco plans...I dry & cut the leaves...with out unhealthy chemicals that all the tabaco manufactures use...and the only thing lefr to buy from the Tabaco Store to cover my smoking habit is to buy the Empty-filtered Cigarette paper Tubes.- 200 for $2.50...One healty pack of Cigarettes of 20 costs me ...35 cents.- A tabaco plan is very easy to raise and up-keep....grows as a weed... Go in your local library you will find all the information you need as I done., and I hope others will follow my steps...this way we will deprive the Goverments of the world of this illegal cigarette tax....I live in USA.

It has already been passed where I live. Thank god. I have nothing against smokers (I used to be one) but I am so embarrassed that I used to be the cause of such a stench as cigarette smoke. Go to your county commissioner website and see if they have it on the agenda. If not, contact your local county commissioner. They work for you and will be happy to take your call.

its come far too late. we avoid public places with our children, because they have asthma. its a drug if only the government would make it illegal, i tell you the nhs would be in a far better state if there were no smokers. they wouldn't spend so much on smoking related cancers such as lung, throat, mouth and the instances of heart disease would drop dramatically, not to mention, blood clots and diabetes. ban it completely for me.

in ohio it passed with conservative backing and support. so far it has amounted to nothing but attempts to block it by business owners who have lost rights.
