I don't know if you have been there before, but here's what I recommend. when you look for a hotel in Vegas consider this. All of the big hotels on the Strip are great but he most important things to consider are location, price, and in the summer you want to consider the hotel’s pool area. So, stay on the strip in the center of all of the hotel locations so that you can walk to see all of the hotels and casinos, and all of the free attractions. The best place to stay to do that is in one of the hotels on or nearest to Flamingo Rd & the Strip. At that corner is Caesars Palace, Bellagio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and the Paris hotels. I am not saying you need to stay in one of these but stay close to them.

The next thing to consider in picking the BEST place is price. Rates go down in the summer (and again after Thanksgiving, until about mid-January (except new years eve when prices double)). So pick a place that has the best price for you. Caesars, Wynn, The Venetian, and Bellagio will cost top dollar all of the time (like $150 and up) per night during the summer. The Flamingo, Ballys Monte Carlo, and some others you can get into for around $100 (but most times for less) during the low seasons. Its also more expensive in all Vegas hotels on Friday and Saturday nights by $40 to $60 more. So to get a lower rate plan to go to Vegas on Sunday and stay through Thursday night.

In the summer you probably want to spend some time at the pool areas, which in Vegas are fabulous. All of the big hotels have great pool areas. But the Mandalay Bay, and Monte Carlo hotels have a wave pool and a lazy river for tubing or body floating. The MGM hotel has a huge lazy river and a water fall. The Flamingo has a water slide and also a water fall. The pools at Caesars and Bellagio are good because they have multiple pools and plenty of places to sit. Caesars even has a topless pool areas called the VENUS POOL.

I have stayed at Paris, Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, MGM, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Caesars, the Rio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and Harrahs. But the BEST place for me when I go is who has the best price. So shop the web sites, look at the hotel rate calendars, and go when the price is the lowest.

When you go to Las Vegas these usual things you will want to see for FREE:

1. Number one on my list is to watch the fountains displays in front of the Bellagio hotel. It usually runs every 15 minutes in summers starting at 3:00 PM; runs continuously until about midnight. Each show is different (there are more than 20 different tunes choreographed) so stay and watch at least 2 or 3. ALSO, go inside the Bellagio hotel to its lobby and view the beautiful glass sculptured ceiling AND the seasonal floral arrangements in the Atrium.

2. The “Sirens of TI” show (spectacular) in from of the Treasure Island Hotel; it runs every 90 minutes starting at about 4:30 PM. Simply stand on the sidewalk in front of the TI Hotel.

3. The volcano erupt in from of the Mirage Hotel; starting at dark until midnight. Again, just stand on the sidewalk in front of the hotel.

4. Go down to Fremont Street and see the light shows. There are usually 3 or 4 different shows, starting after dark (about 8:30PM) and lasting about 5 or 10 minutes each.

5. Go to the RIO hotel to see the Masquerade in the Sky show. It is like Mardi Gras parade, only suspended from the ceiling over the gambling floor. It runs every 60 minutes starting about 3:00 PM; the last show starts at 9:30 PM..

6. Go to the MGM Grand hotel to see the Lion habitat. This is better then the tiger habitat at the Mirage Hotel because there are usually trainers in with lions to keep them active.

7. Go to the Mirage hotel to see the white tigers that Siegfried and Roy show used. This is kinda passe because the tigers rarely do anything but sit and stare.

8. Go in Caesars Palace and walk through the Forum shops to the first fountain (its spectacular) then take the first fork to the left to go see the aquarium. Then continue on through the shops to the second fountain and wait for the show to start.

9. Go into the Flamingo hotel to see their animal habitat with flamingos and penguins.

10 The Excalibur hotel also has a free show starting at 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM.

If you are a Star Trek Fan, go to the Hilton (off the strip) for "Star Trek The Experience"; it cost about $25.

Most of the big hotels, like Ceasers, Mandalay Bay, Paris, Bellagios, etc., have very high end restaurants now and most have more than one. When you get to Vegas you will see in the airports and in your hotel booklets called "Vegas Today" or "Inside Vegas" These list all of the hotels, restaurants (some have price ranges) and dining options. The one place that i do recommend for romance and the view is the Top of the World Restaurant in the Stratisphere Hotel. You MUST make reservations and make them for a time just before dark. The restaurant has great food and it rotates as you sit and eat so you get a great view of the city.

If you don't want to eat high end all of the time, then go to the food courts in the hotels. The buffets are not the bargains that they were 15 years ago.

The strip and all the hotels are great and a real experience, but three trips to take are 1) The Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour, 2) The Valley of Fire and 3) Freemont Street in the evening.

We have been to Las Vegas twice now and a friend of ours who is a local took us on 2) and 3) - Fantastic!

The Venetian is amazing - a great big canal on the 1st floor!

The Bellagio (spelling?) - you have never seen so many designer shops in your life, all in one building! There is a great big lake with dancing water fountains - amazing!

Real lions in the MGM! Don't fret - they live on a ranch and come and stop in this massive enclosure in a corner of the MGM for a few hours.

Shark Reef in the Mandalay Bay! Real sharks and a million other sea creatures!

If you fancy eating fish and chips - DO NOT eat the fish and chips in the New York, New York!!!!!!!

Food (Buffet) in The Luxor was pretty good.

Also the breakfast in The Excalibur was great! Buffet style with far too much to choose from. They had Chinese, Indian and Mexican food available for heavens sake - for breakfast!!!

Fabulous restaurant in Caesars Palace - sorry can't remember what it was called but it was something that made you think it wasn't a restaurant - like The Cake Shop or something silly.

The show in the Excalibur was great - (it took a while to get used to Merlin and King Arthur having American accents though!) - and you got food included.

The Grand Canyon is about 50 miles away - many options available - we went on a small aeroplane and it was amazing. A must!

I thought I would hate the place, and was only going because we were going to a wedding! The place is absolutely amazing and I would absolutely love to go back. (Don't think it is much fun for under 21's though).

OMG....July is so roasting hot here, so I do NOT recommend going to Death Valley.
Good luck staying cool.

Cheap drinks at Slots O Fun at Circus Circus.
The round bar in the middle of the Venetian has a really good bloody mary.
The Rio buffett is my favorite.
Hoover Dam is kinda boring since 9/11 - no more big tours.
I would defintiely take in some shows. Zumanity is pretty wild if you are not homophobic - the emcee is a drag queen.
Cirque de Soliel and Blue Man are fun.

I agree with Tinkertoy about taking advantage of the free shows.
I love going to Fremont Street. It is old school and fun.

The strip will keep you occupied for some time and there are plenty of places to eat along it. It is one of the few places in the USA where people actually walk around in large numbers - bit like a UK High Street.

You can get a daytrip flight to the Grand Canyon (Scenic Airways) with pickup from strip hotels, not cheap, but much quicker than driving there (provided you can handle flying in a light aircraft).

Also well worth driving out to Death Valley.

Go to the Hard Rock. Best place in Vegas to eat, drink, gamble, party, etc. And check out the Star Trek exhibit at the Hilton, if you are into trek stuff. And go on the roller coaster at New York, New York. And go see the Hoover Dam.

By the way, since you will be on your honeymoon, aren't you just supposed to stay in your room and shag all day and night? And do you realize that the average daily temperature in Vegas in July is about 120? Don't forget your sunblock. Have fun!
