The Phillies will make the playoffs, but as a wild card. You have to remember one important thing: the pitching is good, but the offense is top-notch. Charlie Manuel was the hitting coach for the Indians when they were dominating the AL Central a few years ago. He is an offensive guru who happens to have a bevy of solid hitting talent in Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, and Pat Burrell. They won't overcome the Mets, but they are good enough to pass the one year wonder Dodgers and inconsistent Padres.

It's too early to tell yet. We need to see how the rotation goes. Meyers looks good, lost some weight, but need to see how he throws. Utley, Howard and Rollins will be very good. Batting order should be 1. Victorino (he gets base hits) 2. Rollins (he hits too much for power, not a good lead off hitter) 3. Utley 4. Howard
5. Rowand (he can hit for power to back up Howard) 6. Burrell (he's gonna play 'cuz he makes so much $$, so put him here where his strike outs won't hurt) 7. Helms 8. Coste 9. Pitcher This should get us there.

Yeah I think that the Phillies could definitley win the NL East this year. I'm still not very impressed with the Mets because their pitching staff isnt very good. The Phillies have a great power hitter in Howard and Utley can always be counted on for a base hit.

It is a possibility for them to get the wild card. However, I think the wild card will most likely come out of the Central since it is such a week division outside of St. Louis. The West will beat up on each other and everyone else will beat up on them as well, so look for all the teams in the West to be close together and close to .500. The East is where it's at this coming year...again. The Mets should be the NL team to beat as long as they can get healthy and stay healthy in the starting rotation. As far as offense goes, no one comes close to the power, speed and timely hitting the Mets are going to field every day.

Yes i believe they will. With Utley Howard, Meyers, Hamels, etc. i think they have a very good shot. Now if Bat the bat can have a season like he had a few years ago then yes i think we will definately make the playoffs.

You have already conceded to not winning the division, and there is only one wild card spot. You can't possibly think that Philly will be able to hold off the rest of the league. And to add to the teams that the Phillies need to worry about... St. Louis, Houston, or Chicago, whoever doesn't win their division, then there is young Florida in your own division. If Philly makes it, they will be overachieving.

i will flow out on a limb and say convinced. in spite of in the journey that they sweep the Mets they nonetheless are not as solid. i imagine they ought to get the WC. The Braves are too inconsistent, the D-Backs have zip journey and performance been outscored this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and the Padres don't have the firepower.
