I've been breast feeding my 7 week old from the start!! And lately for the past 1-2 wks or so, he's been fussing a little while nursing then screaming after he's done for about 10-15 minutes?? I do try and burp him, sometimes he does and sometimes not, but whether or not he does he cries. He's not constipated, but he does spit milk out sometimes while nursing, or it'll drip out too. And he spits up too. I didn't think breast fed babies got gas much anyways?? So, I don't know what's bugging him? No fever or anything else I've noticed going on? Any advice or insight? Thanks this is my first too!!!!!

Sounds like he's not liking something that you are eating (I know my son had a problem if I had broccoli and my daughter had a problem if I had chocolate). Another thought could be acid reflux (yes babies get it too) especially if he is spitting up alot. Do you have a lactation consultant? or if not does the hospital where you delivered offer breastfeeding support? Another source of help would be the La Leche League. Try not to panic too much...but see if you can see someone to help. Online advice is fine but someone right there to help at the time is better.

Good luck

Just because you are breast feeding doesn't mean the baby can't have gas. ANY baby can suffer from gas. Try giving him some mylicon drops and see if it helps. Or, maybe he is still hungary when you pull him off and that is why he is crying afterwards. You may want to watch your diet too- no spice foods or vegatables that make yourself gassy- that is passed to the baby as well.

well this is a guess, i have 5 children all breastfed, i have 2 ideas, one it's something you are eating that is upsetting him, two try to pump a little before feeding you might be engorged and its difficult for him to get some, and he is fussy after because he is still hungry, just a thought good luck

He might not be getting enough milk. You might consider supplementing him with formula too. I'd call my pediatrician before making any drastic changes, though.

Good luck!
