Good old Windows, don't you just love it ?

I assume he has already tried to 'undelete' (eg. return to previous back-up, or previous system restore point) without success ..

OK - I expect some 'bits' of the Modem drivers have been left in the Registry .. I guess he will have to track them down & kill them

NB - heres a good idea for him - create a System Restore Point before playing around next time

- in fact, tell him to do it now before playing aroud with the Registry (after his last trick, theres a good chance he will trash his system).

some adsl modems like to have the drivers installed before you install the modem itself.. make sure the drivers are uninstalled and then reinstall them...might work
