What is girl power in the 90's?

Does it mean that female teens want empowered teen characters shown on the media, or is it a nother form of liberation? Did it start in the 90's ?

Yes, it did start in the 90s. The Spice Girls used that as their motto.

"Girl Power" is about being strong, being female, being proud, and loving your friends as opposed to being catty or ditching them for a guy.
