when my hamster 'died' i thought he was asleep so i prodded and poked him but he didnt wake so i had to accept that humphrey had passed on, i was in floods of tears [i was pregnant at the time so my emotions were sensitive] , i buried him in the garden under a tree, when i told my then partner he said "are u sure he wasnt just hibernating", i suddenly felt sick and ran to the garden and dug him up, but he was dead, whether or not he was dead before i buried him i dont know, but i dont want to talk about it anymore.

No, not personally, but I heard a story about a neighbour's dog who brought in the dead pet rabbit from next door in his jaws. He was so embarrassed that he sneaked the rabbit back into his neighbours hutch and feigned ignorance. The next day, the rabbit owner told him that a strange thing had happened. Apparently his rabbit had died of natural causes and he'd buried it only to find it back in it's hutch the next day!
