Honestly, the idea of "Making it Big" is near impossible. There are thousands and thousands of people who are amazing singers. The chances of someone 'discovering' you and making you a big star are almost nil. You have a better chance of winning the lottery. But, if you really love singing and want nothing else than to be a singer, you have to start small.

Find a band to join. You don't even need a full band, at first. Find someone who plays guitar or keyboards that likes your singing style. Somewhere in your town has an "Open Mic" night, where you will find other people looking to start a band. Find someone who whose style you like, and try to convince them to start a band with you.

From there, it's a long lonely road. You have to work on the songs, buy equipment, book gigs, and hopefully after that you, if you are any good, you will start to build a following. Once you have a small, reliable fan base, you can get better gigs, and collect better pay for those shows.

Once you have a band and have songs written, you can record your CD. Then, you shop it around to different record companies. Be prepared for lots of doors slammed in your face. Also be prepared to be told that you are not good enough to be a big star. If you are lucky enough to have a record label exec take a look at you, you have to be better than the hundreds of other acts they are looking at.

I compare it to wanting to be an actor. EVERYONE wants to be an actor. Unfortunately, each year, lots of people move to Hollywood to realize their dreams. 99% of those people end up leaving town broken hearted. I'm not trying to be negative, just wanting you to realize what you're getting into here.
