There are two ways to measure days, solar time and sidereal time. The solar, based on the interval of to successive returns of the sun, is also broken down into apparent solar days and mean solar days with the apparent able to differ in time from the mean (always 24 hours) by 22 seconds shorter to 29 seconds longer depending on the time of year. The sidereal day is the time it takes the Earth to turn in it's rotation, 23 hours, -56 minutes.
Perhaps if we find a way to suspend time here on Earth then we could have a day longer than 24 hours!
