The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' is one of my all time favorite songs and it just so happens that we're doing a project in my theatre class where we're supposed to make a *music video* on a song of our choice. Well my group decided today to use Bittersweet Symphony but we have a small problem.

Can anyone tell us precisely what the song is about? Don't get me wrong, I'm know what its about but I want to be able to portray that in our performance. So could anyone give me some feedback on what they think (or know, preferably) what the song is about? That way we definitely won't be doing the wrong thing and not giving a terrible performance to a song that definitely doesn't deserve it. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Very cool song indeed.

Why not make it like the original video. The video is the lead singer walking down a busy street on the sidewalk bumping into everyone who gets in his way. He continues singing the song paying them no mind as they stop and turn around like "wtf"..or just keep going ignoring him. very good video also.

genuinely attempt some Oasis, and the album "The Bends" by technique of Radiohead. the final sound of The Verve became heavily inspired by technique of David Bowie and the "Heroes" album and that era of Bowie's occupation. The music also makes use of the Rolling Stones music "The very last Time" as its beginning, i do not really imagine that's an same type of music in any respect, yet you are able to listen it interior of bitter sweet Symphony.

OOps she already gave you the lyrics, well it was in the movie Cruel Intentions, so that might help if you've seen the movie. It's a good song for the circumstances in it. It's kind of a weird song to decipher. I think everyone would have different opinions about what they think it is really about. I think it's pretty much saying that no matter what you do, you are who you are and can't change that, and what is the point of life.......everything you earn in life doesn't matter because you can't take it with you in death.

read the lyrics - I would say it's about life in general and the pain vs joy that sometimes happens...in life.

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

Well I never pray
But tonight I'm on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change
I can't change

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the things meet yeah

You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

I can't change my mold
no, no, no, no, no,
I can't change
Can't change my body,
no, no, no

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you've ever been down?

It means, in life we have good and bad but somehow they mesh together and make our life work for us.The good and the bad balance each other out.
