So, I have bad breath. I eat a mint. 20mins later, its gone. Bad breath again. Another mint. 20mins later, its gone. The cycle continues. When would one stop this nonsense? What if you are on a date? You cant keep popping in mints. Are there alternative solutions to bad breath? (I have brushed well and have scrapped my tongue. Note: I tend to have bad breath when my mouth is try and the side of my lips have some gunky-ish stuff, sometimes white). Is a mint or gum better? Any recommendations?

Bad breath is often caused by bacteria that live in the mouth. Things that will help:

1. Make sure you brush your teeth and clean your mouth thoroughly. Every morning and before bed a) brush your teeth (and your gums and your tongue and beneath your tongue), b) Floss your teeth, and c) scrape your tongue.

2. After brushing, flossing and scraping use Hydrogen Peroxide as your mouth wash. You can buy hydrogen peroxide (3% in the brown bottle) at your local drugstore for about $1 for a 16 ounce bottle. Mix 1/2 ounce hydrogen peroxide with 1/2 ounce hot water and swirl in your mouth for about 1 minute. Spit out (DO NOT SWALLOW) and then rinse your mouth out several times with cool water

3. Instead of using mints, suck on zinc tablets (like Cold Eeze - use the sugar free). The zinc kills the bacteria that causes bed breath.

Finally, go to the dentist and make sure you don't have any cavities. The bad breath bacteria THRIVE on cavities!

Using hydrogen peroxide for your mouthwash will not only freshen your breath, it will whiten your teeth and help prevent future cavities.

You might have a condition that you should see a doctory about. Also, keeping your mouth hydrated will help. Drink lots of water, things like soda pop and alcohol will only work to make your breath smell worse.

See a doc. You could have a throat infection. Also you might have a bad tooth. Both cause an odor.
