I'm so confused I dont know what to do. After I get out of college and look for a job?Which school and degree looks better? Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism from Illinois state or Bachelors in Communication for UIC? The reason why I'm considering UIC is because that's where my father and boyfriend really want me to go but i dont want anyone to run my life but mine?Opinions anyone?I really need some advice..Thanks alot.

UIC?????? what's that? ISU - Illinois State in Normal is a great school, but as far as comparing to UIC I have to know what UIC you're referring to. OOOOOH Okay,

UIC - Well Univ of IL bears quite the influence all over the place and many many broadcast journalists have come out of Chicago and made their way to the top networks.

ISU - more laid back as far as the campus, less hectic.

Hmm, tough decision. I'm going to have to say UIC to carry more "power" after graduation. However, that being said, in my honest opinon if you have the scores from SAT, apply to Univ. of Missouri - Columbia. In my opinion they have one of the top rate Schools of Journalism in the entire country.

Good luck. And above all, good choice in not going somewhere to "please" others.

***EDIT NOTE 2-9-07**** --- HOLD THE PHONE, I didn't See Bradley. THAT's where you want to go then of course, no contest (okay because that's where I went!!!!) Bradley is the Harvard of the Midwest and is a small, intimate setting, but with great professors Teacher/student ratio much more favorable. Hm,, now my choice is Bradley, but I am slightly prejudice.

Outside of Illinois, no one has heard of Illinois State U. UIC is more well known. The University of Illinois name does have some weight. However, remember, outside of your first or second job, the name of the school attended becomes unimportant, and its experience and recommendations which will get you the job.
UIC is considered to be the better school, but that doesn't mean ISU is a bad school.
The fact is there aren't that many jobs in the area you're interested in. New grads in journalism always get stuck in small towns.

The question that you ask is common, but it puts in mind that the very best School to attend is the one that accepts you. Just because you may want to go to this school or that school doesn't mean that they will accept you.

It is to your betterment to listen to you dad, as to the boyfriend 10 years from now you may not even remember his name. If your father will back you if you don't go to the school of his choice so much the better, but remember the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules.

Let me dispel a thought for you. Do not make this decision thinking that one is better than the other. If I were still in business I would not hire a person because I thought that this school was better or the other was better. I would base it on a lot of factors.
Degree yes, but school if I don't know of the school I am already in the wrong business. i.e. Worcester Poly Tech in Worcester MA.
is a great engineering school, you might not know that but if you were hiring engineers you would know just exactly who they are.

Remember that the very lowest in class ranking of a Medical School, is none the less brilliant it is just that some one is going to rank at the bottom.

Edit Note; I have a son that is one of less than a hundred in the entire world he didn't do Medical school back east but they sure would love for him to agree to come there to teach. Pre-Med School in Texas, Med School Texas, Speciality Texas, Fellowships X 3 UT in Houston Texas. As you can see none of his Schooling was from one of the big med schools back east or even in St. Louis. The Education is what is important, much more than some school. You don't have to believe me I am only 62 years old and have seen a bunch in my life but there is one fact that even you should remember. Does the name Peter Jennings mean anything to you? If it does, I would point out that he was a high school drop out and never went to college.
